From 12 August 2026, Regulation (EU) 2025/40, known as the PPWR (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation), is fully applicable. This is the new European regulation setting out how packaging placed on the European Union market must be designed, labelled and disposed of.
Unlike previous directives, the PPWR is a regulation: it applies directly in all EU countries, without needing to be transposed into national law. This means the same rules for everyone, but also clear responsibilities assigned to specific parties along the supply chain.
What this means in practice for Packly customers
If you’re an Italian microenterprise, under this exception Packly (as a supplier based in Italy) takes on the role of manufacturer for PPWR purposes. As a result, your packaging must carry the badge with QR code provided by Packly, which you can download directly when creating your box on the platform (or underneath the article).
If you’re not a microenterprise (a small, medium or large business), the role of manufacturer remains yours: you’re responsible for the compliance of the labelling and environmental information shown on the packaging, even when the physical production is carried out by Packly.
If you’re a private individual (EU), Packly always takes on the role of manufacturer for PPWR purposes. In this case too, you must therefore use the badge with QR code provided by Packly, downloadable when creating your box.
